To find the sun’s azimuth naturally.
312. If a great circle at right angles tothe horizon passes through the zenith andnadir, and, also through the sun’s center, itsdistance from the meridian in the morningor evening of any day, reckoned upon thedegrees on the inner edge of the broadpaper circle, will give the azimuth re-quired.
Method I.
313. Elevate either pole to the positionof a parallel sphere, by bringing the northpole in north latitude, and the south polein south latitude, into the zenith of thebroad paper circle, having first placed theglobe upon your meridian line, or by theother method before prescribed; hold upa plomb line so that it may pass freely nearthe outward edge of the broad paper circle,and move it so that the shadow of thestring may fall upon the elevated pole ; thencast your eye immediately to its shadow onthe broad paper circle, and the degree it
