METHOD

OF INCREASING

THE LIGHT OF TALLOW CANDLES,

AND TO OBVIATE THE

NECESSITY OF SNUFFING THEM,

Mr. Ezekiel Walker has she war that, if atrifling alteration be made in the method ofusing common tallow candles, they will be-come excellent substitutes for those of wax.

A common candle, weighing one-tenth ofa pound, containing fourteen single threadsof fine cotton, placed so as to form an angleof 30 degrees* with the perpendicular, andlighted, requires no snuffing; and what ismuch more valuable for some purposes, itgives a light that is nearly uniform in strengthwithout the least smoke, These effects arethus produced:

* Candlesticks may be made to hold the candle at thisangle, or they may be so contrived as to hold the candle atany angle at pleasure.
