of the Ecliptick) in luch a case you may (by thePlanif-phcre ) find in what part the Ecliptick cuts any hour Cir-cle as is shewed before in the use of the Planisphere , andthereto apply the Ruler of the Planisphere , which willshew you in what Azimuth this shall happen i this Section(1 fay) of the Ecliptick with the fame hour. If therefore*you put in that fame Azimuth into the horizontal line ,and project it into the Vessel, you shall find the famepoint of intersection with the hour , and through thatpoint must the Ecliptick Circle paste ; The like may bedone for all the other points of intersection. And thisyou may doe without finding what altitudes the Ecliptickhath upon any Azimuth, which I beleeve the Planis-phere will not doe very well: Therefore, in such cafes thisdirection may be ready , or else take that way which is ad-joyncd to this , if you think not much of your labour, whereto that way will put you.
This way I have given as the best, but I fe a re the Planispherewill not doe (as I said) his part. I have therefore added thisnote to help forward the businesses that all may be the bet-ter known,or understood at least, I will add another directionhere, which every one may refuicor use at his pleasure as heshall like. And this is protectively without the Planisphere. Therefore, now again, fill your Vessel with water as full as itmust be , and having the Axis and the hour points found andplaced as even now they were, you may on the projecting side(that is on that side on which you do stand when you projectany point from theGnomon to the Vessel,or on that side whichthe Sun is on when it caste th thisstiadow)from some fuperiourpoint of the Axis(or from the fupream point of the whole axis)stretch out a threed, and with your eye repose it, and the Axisand the point of any one hour, all three in one,3c in that lameposition fasten your threed ; This done, find upon this hour(by your Planisphere) such altitudes as you require, and fromthe Gnomons point inlcrt them into the new tastned threed 1by help of your Semicircle, and there tie knots upon the lame!threed for marks; Then come to project the fame knots,!Which is done by reposing with your eye those lame knotsupon the point of the Gnomon j and in that position, both
