Canal.
ADDENDA.
For every ton of flags, carried as above, four-Jience , and (oin proportion.
All persons who have paid the duties as above, have freeliberty to land goods, &c. at any wharf, and to lodge thefame at any warehouse, not exceeding six days, within theparilh of Manchester, belonging to the Duke of Bridgwater;and that all persons who (hall have paid the duties before-mentioned to the Duke for wharfage, &c. for goods, (hallnot be liable to pay any tolls for pasting through the said lock,with such goods, &c. it being the intent and meaning, thatthe above rates (hall be accepted by the Duke, as a full com-pensation for the loss he may sustain by reason of the junction,&rc.
The above lock to be the property of the Rochdale Com-pany, but the repairs, as well as building, is to be at the ex-pence of the Duke.
The locks on the Rochdale canal are to be of the famedimension as those already made on the Duke’s canal.
The act contains many restrictions for protection of themills on the rivers Irk, Roach, and Irwell, with full instruc-tions respecting the gauges to be placed for ascertaining theirdue quantity of water.
The breadth of ground allowed for the canal, towing path,&c. is thirty yards, except at Slack’s Brook, where only eightyards is allowed: in certain parts, are not to deviate from theline laid down in the book of reference without leave; andin no cafe, to deviate more than fifty yards. The reservoirsare on the south east side of the tunnel. Inclined planes arepermitted and protected.
