Swansea

Canal.

The Act of Parliament 34 Geo. III. ch. 109. incorporatesthe proprietors of this canal under the title of " The Company of Proprietors of the Swansea Canals and gives the usualpowers for constructing the canal; with some restrictions re-specting water belonging to certain mills, and indemnities tothe collieries of Messrs. Smith and Williams at Landoor. Thatpart of the canal beginning at a brook near Landoor, to abrook near Morris Town, a distance of near one mile and ahalf, is to be made and constructed by his grace the duke ofBeaufort, and together with the tolls, to remain the privateproperty of his grace.; this part, goes by the name of Mr.Morriss Canal.

The breadth of ground allowed for the canal, towing-path,&c. is twenty.-fix yards. The company are authorised toraise 6o,OOOl. to be divided into shares of i-ool. each, also30,000k more if the first firm is not sufficient. No person&c. to hold more than twenty shares, and for each share aticket or instrument may be given on paying to the clerk thesum of two jhillings, which ticket shall be admitted in allcourts of law as evidence of the title of such subscriber osproprietor. The canal to be completed in four .years fromthe commencement of the Act.

The rates of tonnage are not to exceed

For iron, goods, merchandize, &c. (except pig iron, iron-castings, calcined iron ore, iron-stone, iron ore, rotten-stone,charcoal, coal, culm, stone-coal, coaks, cinders, timber, stone,tiles, bricks, clay, lime-stone, lime, sand, and all kinds of ma-nure), four-pence per ton per mile.

For iron castings, three-pence per ton per mile.

For pig iron, twopence halfpenny per ton per mile.
