River Wei- ward Hare, of Castor, commissioners for executing the powersRation, a to anc ^ purposes of this act. The commissioners are directed toAmend, cleanse the river Welland, from the lock to be made above

the sluice in the Vernatts Drain, to a place in the parish ofSurfleet, called Shepherds Hole ; here to make a dam acrossthe river, sufficient to stem the tide, and to resist the land floods,and from thence to make a new navigable cut at, or nearHootons Gibbet, across the Salt Marshes to Wyberton Roads,,as near the Ship Ale-House as may be.

The new cut at the commencement at Hootons Gibbet isnot to be less than four feet below the pointings of the pre-sent sluice, at the out-fall of Vernatts Drain, and is to becontinued from thence on an inclined plane, of at least fourinches in a mile, to the termination: the new cut is to beconstructed, not less than siftyHeeirwrrde at bottom, with abatter of not less than two feet on each side, for every foot indepth ; the forelands on the north side also are not to be lessthan thirty feet wide; and on the south side not less thanfifty feet; the south bank of the new cut is to be, not less,than sixty feet at the base, nor less than thirty feet wide atthe top, and eleven feet in perpendicular height: the north,bank is not to be less than thirty feet at the base, nor less thansix feet at the top, and eleven feet in perpendicular height..There is also to be made a new sea sluice, with pointingdoors to sea and land, the threshold thereof to be laid onefoot below low water mark, at Wyberton Roads ; the waterway of this sluice is not to be less than fifty feet wide in theclear, and by the side of the said sea sluice is to be made anavigable lock, eight feet wide and sixty feet long, for boats,&c. there are also directions respecting the adjoining river,waters, &c.
