328. Being informed by an experiencedOfficer, that the Air in Soldiers Tents is veryfoul and offensive, especially in wet Weather, the following easy and safe Means to carryoff much of that foul Air, occurred to myThoughts, viz,
325?. T o cut several Holes, about threeInches diameter, on both Sides, near theRidge of a Tent, and few to the Ridge, itswhole Length, a Piece of Canvas, about twoFeet broad, which will lap over a Foot oneach Side, and cover the above-fnention’dHoles. On the Weather-side, the Canvas-lap, or Weather-valence, is to be closeddown ; but on the opposite Lee-side, it mustbe raised two, three, or four Inches, more orless, according to the Weather, by means ofa long slender Stick or Lath, fixed to its lowerBorder or Edge, and with a few small Sticksa Foot long, sewed to the Valence, and reach-ing from the Ridge of the Tent to the longLath, or by some other proper Means; whichOutlets will doubtless greatly refresh the Airin the Tent, and that without being incom-moded with Wind, Dew, or Rain.
