Med. ;2r, Dale Pharm. sq. fit is a most pureand beautiful Earth,' of a regular and compact texture, yet very light; in colour it isof an extrearn; pale yellow, and that non without some faint blush of reddifhnefs amongit, of a smooth and tolerably polite surface, but much less so than the precedent,easily crumbling between the fingers, but not at all staining the hands; it is veryreadily diffusible in water, adheres firmly to the tongue, and melts readily and pleasinglyin the mouth ; wheresit shews itself to be perfectly pure,, leaving not the least sensationof harshness between the teeth.

Before the Microscope, it appears of a something loose but regular texture.

It raises a violent effervescence with Aqua Fortis, and in the fire acquires an almoststony hardness and much darker colour, but with no additional redness.. Urg d by avery violent one, ft is converted into a pellucid glass of a very pale whitish blue.

— If.is dug in France'about Saumur, Blois,; and Bourgogne, where it lies indifferentplaces from five to eighteen feet deep; and from whence it might be had in quantitiesif we would bring it into use, as I am well 1 convinced by often repeated experience,that it much deserves.

I cannot but observe here, that it is a very unhappy thing, that when there are somany. good ..Boles* to he easily had, the people concenf d in these things should neglectall opportunities of getting them, and content themselves with such miserable coun-terfeits as we have now commonly in use under their names; this, however, I lookupon to be. principally the fault of our Druggists. ; for I am unwilling to think any of myown profestion .would scruple, the price of a drug so very cheap as the best of thesemight very *well be sold, if it were to he'had at all. * ^

If the Druggists of this nation however are much to blame in this respect, the Frenchareffurely infinitely more so, who tho’ they have this excellent Bole in their owncountry v will.not be at the expence of carriage for it, but constantly use their commonred Bole which' is* found' about Paris, and which is greatly inferior to this in all respectsin its place, and even under its name.

It is a very fine and valuable Earth, considerably heavier than the Bole of Blois,but lest .weighty than the Armenian, of a texture moderately compact yet very friable,and in colour of a deeper yellow than either of the former; it is of a fine, even, smoothsiarface, breaking very easily between the fingers, and not staining the hands, readilydiffufible*in wker,: ( ahdiquickly and easily melting in ..the .mouth; it is perfectly purewithout the : least grkt'yhefa, Oand. strongly adheres to the tongue if apply’d to it inthe lump.

The Microscope "strews-it to.be of a much more compact'texture than that of Blois.

It is dug about Tokay in Transylvania, and esteem’d, and si believe very justly, apowerful Astringent. Crato thought it superior even to Galen’s Bole Armenic, and hada great opinion.of it in malighant fevers.
