Of INSECTS.

I NSECTS are animals, whop A**'" are neither regularly covered withhai,y feather*, »/ scales, as in the generality of other animals , but eitherwith a hard , and as it were homy, substance, or -with a fife and tender skin ; andof which the far greater part , that is, all that have a hard covering to theirbodies, have on their heads antenna, or, as they are usually called, horns or feelers.

Of the Insehls, some have no wings, others have: they may hence be conveniently ar-ranged into two series, under the names of Apteria and Pteraria.

APTERIA.

'Those which have no wings.

O F the Insects of this series, some have no limbs, others have: they are, accordingto this distinction, naturally arranged under two classes, under the names ofAnarthra and Podaria.

APTERIA, or Infests having no wings.

Class the Firs.

ANARTHRA.

I NSECTS which have their bodies covered with a soft skin, and have no limbs.This class comprehends the Insects commonly called Wtrms and the Leeches .
