. Patent traversing machine. The improvement consistsm applying an oscillating frame, forming an inclinedplane, up which the carriage is run, and which, whenbrought to a horizontal position, can pass over the

rails. Its claim to superior efficiency arises from its notm any way interfering with the fixedness of the perma-nent line of rails Fi gs . i and 2 repl .esent a side eleya-tion and plan of this traversing machine

Dunn’s patent turn-table—the rails of the platform aresupported throughout their entire length by inclinedplanes or wedges, winch are brought into action when re-quired, and render the table perfectly rigid whilst a trainis passing oyer. Figs. 3, 4, and 5, represent a sectionand plan of the patent turn-table.

Permanent rails of the line.

d d and e e are the sides and ends or framing of thetruck, supported by six wheels (c c) running upon thetraverse rails already described.

By the sides (d d) of the truck is supported the axes(/), upon the extremities of which axes are secured thetwo sides (g g') of the oscillating frame, h h are twotransverse pieces, connecting the ends of the two sides(g g ) of the oscillating frame together. To the sides(g g ) of the oscillating frame are attached the rails (j i )upon which the carriage is supported during its removalfrom one line of rails to another.
