Constant pendulum clock. Patented by Dr. Moenck.
11 Brooking, W.—Producer.Electro-magnetical pendulum clock; clock with half-
second pendulum.
[The application of the electric principle to clock-workis by no means recent. Next to the invention of theelectric and magnetic telegraphs, it may be regarded asone of the most successful applications of this subtleagency to practical purposes. The attractive force ofpowerful magnets, so rendered by induction, through theinstrumentality of coils of copper wire around pieces ofsoft iron, is the agency employed to set the train of wheelsin movement. Such clocks, when well made, exhibitgreat constancy and regularity of movement, and severallarge specimens are in the Exhibition.—R. E.]

The principle is extremely simple; but it canscarcely be rendered intelligible in the absence of dia-grams, or unless on inspection of the machine itself.Instead of the ordinary cylindrical form produced by thecommon lathe, the rose-engine produces, among othervarieties, cylinders which, on section, exhibit an indentedoutline, resembling the arrangement of the petals of a
rose,—R. E.] __
