APPENDIX No. X.
Return' showing the Temperature of the Puilding for each day during the Time of the
Ex 111II1TION.
r The following Table is compiled from a Register kept by the men of the Royal Sappers and Minorscharged with watching the ventilation. The temperature inside the Building was determined from themean of the roadings of fourteen thermometers, observed daily at !) and 12 a.m., 3 and (i r.M., during thewhole period tho Building was open to the public, except from the !)th September to tho close, whenthe last reading was taken at 5 r.M. The thermometers wero placed without much regard to shade orsunlight, and in this respect varied much according to tho timo of the day, tho season, and consequentposition of tho sun. Tho temperature outside is determined from tho mean of three thermometers readat tho same hours as those inside. The Greenwich moan tomperaturo is also given, which is, of course, lower than that observed outside tho Building, as ono of tho readings at Greenwich is made at 9 o’clockat night, ami as care is taken to shade the thermometers from tho sun in tho day.
No register was kept on Sundays, nor on any day before tho 19th May.
Tho highest temperature recorded was 90° on the 27th June.
