„It having' plcased the most high and rnighty Zulphukar Cawn, Nabab, to intend ta-„king Tanjore from me Sahougee, Zemindar thereof, — I do hereby promise and en-rage to act diffcrently from my former conduct, and to hâve no connection with, and„give no assistance to Ram Rage, but faithfully and liumbly to pay Submislîon„ to the Impérial Court of bis higli Majesty , wbicb is like Salomon’s in,,glory and magnificence ; and bcing eonvinced that remaining his faithfull subject must„contribute to my présent and future welfare and advantage, I tberefore fubmit myfelf„to lús ordres, and promise to serve him as his Vassal; and i lrave agreed to pay him a„Tribute of tbirty lacks of rupees annually. T will now pay twenty lacks in ready mo-„ney, jewels and éléphants, and I will be answerable for ten laçk in the next year; and„instead of furnifhing the faid Nabab, in his expédition against Gingee, with a toufand„borfe and four touíhnd Sepoys, from my troops (as was intended), I will deliver him„up three forts, viz.
