Or high Spring-Tide, pursues behind,

And with redoubled Speed urges their forward Way.

Nor less, Eucenius, thy important Case,

Thou second Thunder bolt of War !

Partner in Danger and in Fame ;

With Marlborouchs, the Winds shall bearTo distant Colonies, thy conquring Name.

Nor shall my Muse forget to singFrom Harmony what Blessings spring :

To tell how Death did enviously repine,

To see a Friendship so divine ;

When in a Balls destroying Shape she past,

And markd thy threatend Brow at lastBut durst not touch-that sacred Brain,

Where the Concerns of Europe reign ;

For strait she bowd her ghastly Head ;

She saw the Mark of Heavn, and fled,

As cruel Brennus once insulting Gaul,

When.he, at Alliat fatal Flood,

Had filld the Plains with Roman Blood,

With conscious Awe forsook the Capitol,

Where Jove, Revenger of Profanestess, stood..

But where the Good and Brave command,

What Capitol, what Castle can withstand ?

Virtue, as well as Gold, can passThro Walls of Stone, and Towrs of Brass,Lisle, like a Mistress, had been courted long,

And always yielded to the Bold and Youug ;

The fairest Progeny of Vauban s Art,

Till Savoys warlik Prince withstoodHer frowning Thunders, and thro Seas of BloodTore the bri ght Darling from th old Tyrants Heart,
