3But now, when here the Travller turns his Eyes*And, ah ! the great uniiniihd Labour spies jA double Pity rises from his View,

He mourns the Publick Lois, and Oxford too.

Who shall Britannia s falling State sustain ?

Who fix the Empire of the Land and Main?Who Annas Greatness and her Virtues bear.

And sooth with equal Pity all our Care ?

O thou, to whom the Pious Queen resigndA Scepter equal to thy mighty Mind,

O come, Auspicious j urge the happy Way,

And bless thy Subjects with a brighter Day.

The Nobles Thee, the Fathers Thee require,The People Thee, their Guardian God, desireAnd haply, if the Care of Publick WeightShall call you from the Pomp and Noise of State;And here incline you in our calm Retreat,

To taste the Pleasures of the Muses Seat,

Then, Mighty Prince, you better here witl feeWhat Anna left to be perform'd by Thee.

Then better shall this Royal House proclaimWhat Reverence she paid to Annas Name,While to her Successor she pays the fame.
