Moreover, laughing Satire bids thefairest for success. The world is tooproud to be fond of a serious Tutor:And when an Author is in a passion,the laugh, generally, as in conver-sation, turns against him. This kindof Satire only has any delicacy init. Of this delicacy Horace is the bestmaster: He appears in good humourwhile he censures ; and therefore hircensure has the more weight, as suppo-sed to proceed from Judgment, notfrom Passion. Juvenal is ever in a pas-sion ; he has little valuable but his Elo-quence, and Morality: The last of whichI have had in my eye, but rather foremulation, than imitation, thro' mywhole work.
