III. Some extracts from communicationson the application of the Safety Lamp.
The evidence of the use of a practicaldiscovery is of most value when furnishedby practical men. I shall therefore annexextracts from some communications on theapplication of the • Safety Lamp. Thosefrom Newcastle and Whitehaven, will, Iam sure, derive importance from the namesattached to them. That from Wales isgiven as affording an instance in which thecombustion of the fire-damp within thelamp was sufficient to destroy it for a con-siderable time in the workings of a colliery,and it is amusing from the simplicity of thedetail.
