wrongs have infued to many; and for want os the know-ledge os these laws,isl an y fond opinions of unlearned men,meer vanities and conceits, are taken and holden for law,ETnlkhcr Law nor Reason: Whrf; wel Jto revive in memory these Laws being lo ancient and lear-ned prerogative Laws; as also to satiske the fond opini-ons and blif^ conceits that such unlearned men do hold, Iheld it requisite to write this Treatise,which I hope, evenby the judgement of the Learned, shall be thought bothneedful and very convenient. And in writing os this Trea-tise, lest by following of mine own opinion and conceit,I might thereby the rather erre and be deceived; I have setdown nothing, for the which I have not called to warran-ty some one Authour or other, and that not of the unlear-ned sort, but even of the best and learnedst Writers, ap-proving every Argument by some lawful Authority, asyou may fee by the marginal Notes therein, and that netby mine own weak opinion, but by the judgement ofgrave and learned men, whose good help and advise Inave had in the perusing of this T reatisc ; besides the ap-probation and allowance of the fame by some of themost Reverend- and Learned Tudges of the CommonLaws.

For the Order and Method of this Treatise, I havedrawn it into twenty several Chapters or heads; everyChapter containing in it self certain particular Argumentsvfhrch are handled in order, according to the matter andsubject whereofit treateth: as it doth appear in the gene-real! able of Chaffers in the beginning of this Book- Thewhole scope whereof doth perfectly declare thus much.First, the very true and proper Nature of a Forest, withthe original and beginning thereof: Secondly, whereinthe fame doth differ from a chafe, a Park, or any otherRoyal franchise os Pleasure, with every part and memberof the same; and whatsoever is or may be belonging to a
