Forests and also how a Forest oughtto.be ordered andgoverned by the Laws and Officers of a Forest,to preservethe fame in a continual flourishing estate; and likewise, what abuses and misdemeanours do cause the decay andruine of Forest?. And lastly, all sorts of Trespasses,Trespassers, Ossendors, and Malefactors in Forests, andtheir several degrees, punishments, and remedies for the"fame. And as I began at my first entrance to step into aForest by the Meers and Boundaries of the fame,so havinggone through every part of it, viewing and consideringwhatsoever is contained within the circumference thereof^I have made, as it were, a perfect sorvey of a Forest; anddo end within the Pourallee, which although it be alto-gether without the limits and bounds of the Forest, yet forthe better preservation of Forests, theLaws do in some sortas carefully regard the pourallees, as if the seme were Fo-rest still 5 as more at large shall appear by reading of theChapter of the Pourallees.
And thus (gentle Reader) having brought my work toan end, I leave the fame to your view, the matter to thejudgement of the Learned, and my self to your courtesies ;desiring no greater gain or reward at your hands for myTravel herein, then your friendly acceptation of this mypoor labour: Which if I find to be taken in good part, will encourage my going forward in afar greater : But, ifotherwise, I shall not only repent me of my Travel thatI have taken in this, but also smother that, which I havfein hand.
Tour hearty mV-mller ,
