Large-Size Patent Automatic Knife-Grinder.

Will Grind Straight or Concave.

This machine is automatic, and after being started requires no further attention,as it continues to run until the knife is finished to a perfect edge, when the grindingceases at the exact grinding point at which the stop has been set. It is easily takencare of, and for reducing cutters to a keen edge lias no superior. It will sharpen andput in the most perfect order planing knives of all kinds, long or short. Two sizes aremade to grind up to 32" and 36" long, giving a true bevel and straight edge, or theedge can be ground concave. For planing knives the best angle for the bevel is 30degrees. A cup wheel is used, as it grinds faster, runs lighter, lasts longer, and costsless than the disk wheel.

The arbor runs in connected self-oiling bearings, arranged to move forward asthe wheel is reduced in size by wear. By moving the stops on the front face of thecarriage it will traverse forward and back to any distance to suit the length of theknife to be sharpened. The knife-holder can be set to suit any bevel on the knifedesired. It does not heat, and sharpens in one fourth the time required with agrindstone.

The tight and loose pulleys are 8"x 3 %", and should make 400 revolutions.
