Improved Knife-Grinding Machine.

This is a very perfect and handy machine, designed for grinding planing knivesto a perfectly straight edge and true bevel up to 32" In length and 5" In width.A sliding carriage carries a pivoted clamp, or knife-holder, in which the knife tobe gi’ound is secured. By turn-ing the center screw it can beadjusted to give any bevel de-sired. The screws on the underside raise or lower the knifeto any height. The slidingframe which carries the knife-holder is constructed so thatthe water drains away. It willfinish a planing knife onehundred per cent,better and in onequarter of thetime it can pos-sibly be done byhand. With this ma-chine the knife is easilykept in perfect order,while the stone wearsuniformly and lastslonger. It can be at-tached to any grind-s t o n e-f r a m e, its ownweight being sufficient toretain it in position. Itis provided with a handlefor reciprocating it acrossthe face of the stone.

The necessity for a good tool-grinding machine in every shop is well knownto all users of machinery—wood or iron. The one here presented is believed to beunsurpassed. It is made entirely of iron, with the frame cast in one piece. It ismounted on wheels, rendering it portable and easily moved to any part of theshop, or for changing the tension of the belt. It has a heavy arbor, with largeflanges and nuts made to adjust on each side of the face of the stone. A steady-rest is mounted upon the top of the frame for grinding small tools. It has also anoutlet at the bottom for the discharge of any deposit that may gather. It willreceive any size stone up to 48" in diameter, which are furnished at a small extracharge when ordered. The pulley on the arbor is 16"x4", and should make 100revolutions.
