Traversing Hand Gaining Machine.

For Straight or Angle Gains.

This machine is designed for carpenter and agricultural work. It has a plateexpansion gaining head which will cut any width from %" to 4", according tothe size and number of cutters. The arbor carrying the gaining head is of largediameter, and runs in bearings cast solidly to a traversing arbor frame, gibbedto the top of a substantial column, with broad base.

The cutter-liead is belted from a countershaft above, placed in the centerof the line of travel between the two extreme points of the gaining head. Thebed, or carriage, is gibbed to the column, and adjustable by hand-wheel andscrew to different heights to suit the thickness of the gains to be made, and todifferent angles, to allow of gains to be made upon either face of the piecebeing worked. The gaining head and frame is moved across the material by ahand-wheel and screw, insuring an even feed and leaving a smooth, sharp, clean cut.

The countershaft pulleys are S^xd", and should make 875 revolutions.
