One-Spindle

Radial Horizontal Car Boring Machine.

For Radial, Straight, and End Boring.

This is one of the most useful machines in a car-shop. It will bore everyhind of straight, angle, and end holes, also truck and body bolsters for truss rods, etc., with perfect ease, and without moving the timber, all the necessary adjust-ments being made with the spindle carriage.

The boring spindle has a movement of 24", and can be brought close to thework in angle boring. It is raised and lowered by a hand-wheel, geared to ascrew of coarse pitch, by which the auger is brought to the point desired with-out changing the position of the timber.

The upper part of the column which carries the boring frame and arbor ispivoted to a plate which allows it to swing to any desired angle in either direc-tion, or it can be completely reversed, and bore in the opposite direction. Itis adjustable to and from the work, and the carriage is provided with frictionrolls, also a fluted roll for feeding it to a determinate point.

With each machine is sent the following machine bits, viz.: A", M", A",

H", i*", I*", 1", IK", IK". 1 IK", IK", 2", 10" twist, and one bit each

W', il", 16" twist, for boring holes for joint bolts.

The countershaft is placed above. A weighted pulley hung in the slack loopof the belt secures the proper tension, and allows the boring arbor to be movedhorizontally or radially in either direction while in motion or at rest.

The tight and loose pulleys are 10"x4K", and should make 750 revolutions.
