Three-Spindle
Automatic Horizontal Car Boring Machine.
AVith Automatic Elevating Boring Spindles.
In all general ear boring this machine has no superior. It lias three boringspindles of large diameter, lead-ground, mounted in heavy connected gateways,with bearings upon each side of the spindle-pulley. Each has a quick automaticvertical movement, independent of each other, by which the frequent change ofaugers is avoided.
The spindles have a vertical movement of 10", a horizontal movement acrossthe table of 16", and will bore through 14" timber, with stop collars to regulatethe length of boring. The spindle-frames automatically raise and lower by squarethread screw and friction gears, controlled by levers in front.
The carriage is massive and hea\ T y, with rollers to receive the timber, anda fluted roller for moving the timber to an exact point. Hut one belt is re-quired to drive all three boring spindles. The power is applied from a coun-tershaft placed above the machine.]
The tight and loose pulleys are 12"x6", and should make 350 revolutions.
