Power-Feed Rod-Turning Machine.
With Three Pairs Feeding Rolls, Reversible Feed, Etc.
This machine is for turning stretchers, curtain-poles, flag-sticks, and otherkinds of rods, from up to 2 " in diameter. It is mounted on a heavy ironcolumn, with broad floor-base.
The arbor through which the material is fed, and into which the cuttingheads are fitted, is of large diameter, and runs in self-oiling bearings cast solidlyto the top of the column. It receives its power from a floor countershaft sup-plied with each machine.
It has three pairs of feeding rollers, viz.: one pair before and two pairsafter the cutter-liead, powerfully geared and driven by one belt. It has twospeeds of feed, 14' and 16' per minute. When very small rods are to be turneda speed of 25' per minute can be applied.
One pair of rolls is placed in front of the cutter-head for feeding thematerial into it, and two pairs are placed after the cutter-liead for feedingthe rods entirely away from it after they have been turned. They can bereadily removed when changing the machine for different sizes of rods, andwhen removing or replacing the cutter-liead the feeding rolls can be swungout of the way.
Each pair of rolls has an independent adjustment for regulating the press-ure for feeding the material. The feed mechanism is reversible, so the workat any point can be stopped and fed back to the operator for withdrawal orexamination. The machine is furnished with three heads and cutters andthree sets of feed-rolls, the sizes of which may be selected by the purchaser.
The tight and loose pulleys are 10''x 4", and should make 750 revolutions.
