Up to this period the whole labour and ex-pence had been borne by Mr. Williams, whoseother avocations required the best of his atten-tion. In the expectation of success, he labouredunceasingly, until the validity of his views waspublicly acknowledged; and independent of anysubscriptions, which he declined receiving untilthe money should be wanted, he carried the pointat his own cost and charges.
It was not, however, to be expected that,after continuing above two years without a returnof his capital, the advance of further sums wouldbe continued ad infinitum.
