Another important fact of the necessity ofSub-ways has been proved by the letter of theCity Surveyor of Pavements to the Commissi-oners at Guildhall in September last.

To the Committee of the Honourable Commissionersof Sewers for the City of London , and theLiberties thereof.

Having been directed to report myopinion, whether, if additional Gas Companieswere allowed to lay pipes in the City, any in-jury would be done to the pavement; and whetherany additional expence to the Commission wouldensue in consequence of such pipes being laid
