After this adjustment of the twostrings, if they remain untouched till thenext day at noon, a meridian line may beobtained at any window in the house whichhas a southern aspect, by suspending linesas above from the ceiling; that next thewindow may be fixed, but the other shouldbe moveable in a direction nearly east andwest, the weights of these ought also to beimmersed in water j then, if two personsattend a little before noon on the next day,one of them at the two first plumb lineswhich were adjusted to the polar star, andthe other at the two plumb lines in thehouse which are then to be adjusted, eachof them holding a sheet of white paper intheir hands, to receive the shadow of thetwo strings cast thereon by the fun; thefirst observer is to give a signal to the secondof the instant the two shadows on his paperare united in one and the fame line, atwhich time the fun will be precisely uponthe meridian. The other observer in thehouse is likewise to attend with diligence,and as the fun is coming nearer and nearerto the meridian, he is constantly to removehis moveable plumb line, and keep the sha-dows
