of it had been able to get outinto the Abdomen. Thiscost nofmall trouble torender it conspicuous, by emptying thLS ick of all the Serum, and lb disco-vering both sides of the Bag, made up of the double Peritonaeum, whose In-ner Skin had been lever’d from the Outer, sticking to the transverse Musclesoi the Epigastrium, the Hydropical Waters having forc'd the Inner Membraneinwardsmto the hollow of the Abdomen, and so forming it into the 8hape ofa Bag, whose Compaß reach’d from the Pubes unto the Diapbragme, andfrom the Lest Region of the Loins to the Right; so that the Nervous Bodyohhe Peritonaum which is Naturally as thin as a silken Web, being herethicker and closcr than any Ox-Hide, was by little and little expanded, asthe Capacity of the Womb in Gravitation is still more and more enlarg’d.This Bag of the Peritonaum being reroov’d, the Ftfcera came to view, whichwere not Gravelly, nor Tartareous, nor Chalky, (as they often are in Hy-drcfical Bodies) but only Decay’d andColourlefs: Which Decay by the time'ly Ufeof an Inctfion might have been prevented.

obfirvatxms o» L As the Body layalong, we perforated th t Abdomen, in the mostpro-a Maidwbo Ayd minent part, by a Paracentefis , and extracted the contain’d Liquor throughhy mT! j.Turrer a small Canttla, to the Quantity of z Gallons; Afterwards we laid the Corps10 7 - t- 'S- upona Table, in the farne postute, where we made Incision, beginningbe-tween the Umbilicus and the Cartilago Enfiformis, dilating still asweempty-ed, till we had made room for aQuart-Pot, with which we drew out, to theNumber of 7 6 good measur’d Quarts (including the 3 Gallons extractedbetöre) of a Subläline, and lbmewhat Austere Serum j besides what was im-bib’d with our Spunges, not improbably 2 Quarts more. After the dryingup the residue ofrhis Humour (which in Colour and Consistence did some-what resemble Water, wherein Flefh newly kill’d had been walhed, sävingthat ir was of a somewhat deeper Red, and had a more Grats Hypostaßs)we plainly perceiv’d, that the whole Bulk of this so ponderous a Deluge, was bore up and sostain’d between the Cutis and Peritonaum j wherebythere was made a very great Comprefsion of the Intestinet, and other Fijce-ra, to the Vertebra Lumborum and Os Sacrum. The Musculi Reffi of theAbdomen were to my Apprehension quite Obliterated, or at best, not to bedistinguilht from the Carneus Pamicle, or common Tegument of the Body ;when at the tarne time the out ward Covering or Cutis it {elf (notwithstand-ing so vast and powerfull a Dilatation) was füll as Thick as in a Sound Bo-dy, in fome places mach Thicker.- In the Hypcgastrick Region, the Mem-b'ana Adiposa was obfcrv’d to be above 2 Inches Thick, and seem’d tobe noother than a Congeries of little Bladders, each of them contain’d in its pro-per Capful.i, and implete with a Coagulated Lymphatick Juice. The Gru-tnous part of the Blood in the Abdominal Festeis had been thrown forth inmany placcs, and adhered in great Clots to the Membranes. The Thighs,Legs, and Feer, were Anafarcous , and so cxtremely elevated with aWatryHumour, that upon a strict Imprefi I could have bury’d 3 or 4 Fingers :And yet herUpper Parts, as the Neck, Face, Arms, and Hands, were won-dcrfuily Emaciated.
