following Meton, the first and hast ExaSl of the Three; or rathcr sollow-ing both Meton and Casor , two Masters, who vere neither of them the Best, and would aster sometime Disagree and Part further from eachother; thoughboth Casar and the Churcb might have had a much better Copy from Hippar-chus : Whlch Mistakes of tbeirs (and their Eyes being Dazled with the Sun,whereas they might more säfely have looked on ihe Moon) have occasion’dthose Anticipationi and Differences, that have Embarrals’d the Accounti ofTime, and these Parts of the World in the Succeeding Ages. And thoughman y have proposcd Laudable Ways of Redrefling the seid Account i, yetstili building upon the Old Foundations which vere Infirm: Pope Gre-gor/XIII. in his Reformation of the Calendar, about ioo Years fince, was ne-ceiiitated to waveth e Golden Number, and yet Hehasbut Palliated the Dil-easc ; so hard it is to Cure an Error in the first Concoction.

The Council of Nice appointed Easter to be kept the Ftrfi Sunday aster theFirst Füll- Moon aster the 21 of March, becausc the Vemal Equinox, whichwas on the 25 th in our Savioufs Time, was then come to be on the seid21 Day, and Therefore the Gregorian Reformation has Reduced the VernalEquinox back to that Day. But in this Garter Tear, Easter will always bethe Firfi Sunday aster the Firß Full-Moon of the New Tear ; that is aster theVemal Equinox, according to the true Intent and Meaning of the NtceneCouncil J oras it was in the Primitive Times :and be but a Week Moveable,or a Month lefs Moveable than now, either aster the Old or New Stile:Which might perhaps have Prevented the Difference, or Served as an Ex-pedient for reconcilmg the West and Eafi Churcbes.

The three Cycles of Meton, Callippus and Hipparchus , were all of themtoo large for the 5«», and Primarily Intended for the Aloon, or Fora Luni-folarTear; however that of Hipparchus was Nearest to both, and very nearthe Moon’s Period.

Perhaps at first View, my 3 8 Tears Period may be looked upon but as aDouble Mttonic, or Semt-Caltppic one, &c. But upon farther Consideration,it will be found otherwise : for Meton and Calippus, their Periods, as alsothat of Hipparchus, were all of them too Big, not only for the Circuit ofthe Sun, as I seid bcfore, but for that of the Moon also; whereas Mine, onthe otlier hand, is too little for either, and Needs one Additional .Day innear about every 100 Years.
