I ommitted ro Mention before, that Under the Long Walk runs a Cur-rent of Hot Sulphureous Wäters, and there is a Well and other Paflagesdown to them: But whatever they rrfay have been of Old, they are notnow so Convenient as another about half a Mik West ward from hence ;where there is a very good Dcscent into the Water , and it is stili uscd bythe People to Bath in. Near to which, upon the Tedestal of a BrakenPillar, (ot ptrhaps it might be an Altar ) Remains this following In-scription.

I am pretty Confident that the Word I have markt with a Line underit, is Rightly taken, and thereforc know not wbat to Gueß it to be, un-lesi the Proper Name of the Fountain. And upon that Supposition theInscription is easily Intelligible, fhewing*that Bolanus , Son of Zenobius , &c.being Elected Over-seer or Curator of this Fountain* under Jartbolus,Built this Altar to Jupiter , in the Year of Alexander , 474. i. e. of eurLord 150. and on the 20tb of Ottober, if the last Kappa be a Numeral, asI soppose it must. But who this Jaribolus was, on whorn they bestow, asgenerally upon the Roman Emperors, whosc Names occur in the Inscripti -ons , the Title of 0€OC, is not so facile a Conjecture. They were un-der the Parthiam, before the Romam feli in among them; but the Datefhews this to bc aster the Time of Hadria» , and so aster Their Corning.Nay, and in an Inscription before mention’d, which is of a Later Datethan this by 8 o Tears, we have the Name of the Same Person.

Hot Sulphureous Baths are things very frequent in this Counrry; andthence it was that it obtain’d the Name of Syria Salutifera. The Scentof the Watefi here is much like thosc of Bath in England , but not soStrang, neither is the Taste so Offensive : On the contrary, when theyhave tun so far from the Fountain, as to become Gold, they are very Pa-table, and are the only Water the Inhabitants use.

On the Fast side likewife of the Long Piaztaa stands, if I may use sochan Expression, a Wood of Marblt PiUars, some Perfect, and others De-priv’d of their beautiful Capitals ; but so Scatter’d and Confus’d, that it isnot poslible to reduce them into any Order, so as to Conjecture to whatthey Anciently sorv’d. In one Place are 11 together in a . . . ,Square after this manner, Pav’d at the Bottom with broad .

Flat Stone, but without any iRoo/j or\Covering. And at a lit-tle Distance from that stands the Ruins of a small Tempi«, ,which by the Remains seem to have been for the Workmanfhip very Cu-rious. But the Rots is wholly gone, and the Walls very much Defaced andConsum’d with Time. Before the Entsance, which looks to the South, is
