tili they were Fetid in very Hot Wearher;and thcn Iexpected more Rright-tust, but could find Nonc, ei-herin the Wattr by Stirringit, or in the Ftß»,taken out of the Water.

VI. i. Mar. ic. 167'. When I was about to go to Bed, an Amanum- .ßs of mine intormed tne, that one or the bervants or the Houlr, goingupon fco^shmingsome Occasion into the Larder, was frighted by fomething of Luminous that'^ 1 ^^''-fhefa^ (notwithstanding the Darknesi of the place, J where the Meat had n. 89. p/yios.been Hung up btfore : Whereupon I presently sent for the Meat into myChamber, and caused it to be placed in a Corner of the Room being madeconfiderably Dark, and then I plainly saw, both wirh Wonder and Delighr, that the Joynt of meat did in divers places Shine likc Rotten Wood or Stinkting Fißi. The chief Circumstances and Phantmena, that I had Opportuni*ty to take notice of, at 1 b Incon venient an hour, were These.

1. That the Subject, we discourse of, was a Neck of Veal, which hadbeen bought of a Country-Butcher on the Tutfday preceeding.

z. In this one Piece of Meat I reckoned distinctly above 20 scveral placesthat did all of them Shine, though not all of them alike, ferne of them doingit but very Faintly.

3. The bignesi of these Lucid parts wasdifferingenough, some of thembeing as big as the Nati of a Man’s middle Finger, some few bigger, butmost of them Lefs. Nor were their Figures at all more Umf -rm, some-be-ing inclined to a Round, ochers almost Oval, but the greatcst part of themvery Irregularly flrnp’d.

4. The Parts that Shone Most, were some Gristly or Soft parts of theBonei, where the Butcher's Cleaver had passed: But these were not the On*ly parts that were Luminous ; for by drawing too and fro the Medulla Spi-nalis, we found that a part of that also did not Shine ill: And I perceivedone place in a Tenden to afford some Light ; and iastly 3 or 4 Spots in thellefliy parts at a good distance from the Bones , were plainly discovcredby their own Light, though that were Fainter than in the parts above-mentioned.

5. When all thcso Lucid parts were sorveyed together, they made avery Splendid Ihew: So that applying a Printed Paper to some of themore Resplendent Spots, I could plainly Read divers Consecutive Letten ofthe Title.

6 . The Colour that accompanied the Light was not in all the some:

But in those which. (hone Liveliest, it sccmed to bave soch a fine Green-iß) Blevt, as I have divers times observed in the Tatls of Glo-worms.

7. But notwithstanding the Vividneß of this Light, I could not by theTouch discern the least Degree of Heat in the parts whence it proceeded ;and having put some marks on one or twoof the more Shining places, that Imight know them again when brought to the Light, 1 apply’d a Seal’dWea-ther'Glast, furnistied with TmBed Spirit of Wirte, for a pretty while, andcould not satistie my seif, that the Shining parts did at all (enfibly Warm theLiyuor.
