George Joy, Fellow. In the year 1527, beinga warm advocate for the Reformation, and an inti-mate friend of Tindal, he was accufed of Herefybefore the Bifhop of Lincoln, by A(hwell, Trea-furer to Cardinal Wolfey. This compelled him torefign his Fellowfhip; and anxious to avoid the im-pending danger, from the unremitting perfecutions ofWolfey, Sir Thomas More , and Fifher, he wifelywithdrew to the Continent , where he fuperintendcdthe publication of Tindal’s Tranflation of the Bible ,and wrote many books. It is not exactly known atwhat period he returned to England; but we are toldthat he died and was buried in his native country,in the year 1533- He alfo tranflated different partsof the Old Tcftament, and is faid to have compofedmany other books befides thofe which are printed:—the titles may be feen in Tanner *.
