' This diftinguiflied ornament of the Church, wasborn in the year 1693; and after being a Tutor, and Fellow feven years at this College, entered intoPrieft’s Orders in 1719. Befldes being Chaplainto Bifliop Fleetwood, and Preacher to the learnedSociety of Lincoln’s-Inn, he held feveral otherLivings, at different times, until the year iy 37 »when he was elevated to the See of Bangor ; and,in 1743, to the Archbifliopric of York. Oil thedeath of Dr. Potter, he was tranflated to Canter-bury. I11 the year 1753, he was unfortunatelyfeized with a violent fever, which brought him tothe brink of the grave; and after languifhing forfour years, he died on the 13th of March, 1757.This learned Prelate poffeffed every virtue in publicand private life: his mind was filled with unaffectedpiety and benevolence, and the examples of his cha-rity w r ere numerous and well directed.
