Edwyn Sandys, Archbifhop of York, the fonof William Sandys, of Hawk (head, in Lancafhire,Efq. was born in the year 1519. He was educatedin Cambridge, and took his degrees in Arts in 1539-In 1542, he was Junior Prodfor of the Univerfity.About the year 1557, was Hefted Matter ofCatharine Hall ; and, in 1548, obtained the Vi-carage of Haverfham; and not long after was madePrebendary of Peterborough, and alfo of Carlifie.

Upon the death of King Edward VI . Dr. Sandysbeing Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge, and a zealousProtettant, preached a Sermon , by order of theDuke of Northumberland, in favour of Lady Jane Grey s title to the throne.
