The great usefulness and season&bkness of the pre-sent Argument , touching Witches, and Appari-tions, in subserviency to Religion.
T H E Question, whether there are Witchesor not, is not matter of vain Specula-tion, or of indifferent Moment; butan Inquiry of very great and weightyImportance. For, on the resolution of it, de*fends the Authority and just Execution of someof our Laws ; and which is more, our Religionin its main Doctrines is nearly concerned. Thereis no one, that is not very much a stranger to theW orld but knows how Atheism and Infidelity haveadvanced in our days, and how openly they nowoare to shew themselves in Asserting and Difpu-ll| ig their vile Cause. Particularly the difiinUi -° n of the S oul from the Body , the Being of Spirits,‘ Ul d a Future Life are Assertions extreamly de-vised and opposed by the Men of this sort, and iflose those Articles, all Religion comes to no*^hing. They are clearly and fully Asserted in thesacred Oracles, but those Wits have laid aside
