Power-Feed Matching Machine.
With Four Driven Feed-Rolls.
This machine is intended for tongueing and grooving short stuff for boxes, bottom boards for wagons, sheathing, and work that is not parallel on its edgesor of equal widths. The frame is made of plate sides, and with large floor base.
The matching works consist of a heavy cast-steel arbor of large diameter, thejournals ground to accurate sizes. The arbor-bearings are good length, and linedwith special hard metal. The arbor carries two matching heads, one for groov-ing and the other for matching. These run below a platen and on either sideof a long fence. The face of the feeding-out platen is lower than the feeding-inplaten, to accommodate the cut.
The feeding arrangement is very strong, consisting of four feeding rollers, driven by a heavy train of gearing at the base of the machine. Changes of feedcan be made by changing the size of the pulley.
The fence is rigid in its position, has two idler rollers to relieve it fromfriction, and the matching heads and driven rollers are adjusted to it for differentthicknesses of lumber, which is passed over the heads between the rollers andthe fence and returned in the opposite direction.
The machine can be constructed for hand work alone, or can be combinedand used as either a power or a hand machine.
A countershaft is furnished at a small extra cost when wanted. It hastight and loose pulleys 10"x5", and should make 875 revolutions.
