Perfect Knife-Balancing Machine
This verj T simple and useful machine is for bringing planer-knives to anaccurate and perfect balance, both end and edgewise. The engraving shows it witha knife ready for balancing. The balancing frame is hung on centers, the kniferesting on the top face. Upon the opposite end is a turned rod with a series ofsmall adjustable weights for securing a perfect balance of any size or weight ofknife. It has a movable degree-point, or finger, upon the left-hand side of thescale to mark the balancing line. A small screw-rod and weight is placed on theunder side for very accurate and nice adjusting.
In balancing new knives always select the lightest one of a set, and balancethe others to it by filing from end to end or upon the back. If there is muchdifference in the weight of the knives drill the heavy end or file the slots.
Improved Matcher-Bit Setter,
For quickly and accurately setting bits in matcher-heacls this little machineis indispensable. It consists of a cored stand carrying an arbor, a projecting armupon the rear side, and an adjustable templet-frame having a blank form of the
tongue and groove bits finished to accurate sizes.The templet-frame is adjustable upon the arm tosuit the diameter of the head, and each blank canbe adjusted independently of each other to secureperfect accuracy of position.
The templet having been set, the bits are putinto the heads, which are placed on the arborand turned toward the templet. It requires buta moment’s time to set them accurately to matchthe templet, when they are secured, and ready foruse. The angle at which the templet-frame setsallows the operator to see at a glance if the posi-tion of the hits in the heads corresponds exactlywith the profile of the templet.

Care should be taken to always set the Patent Solid Milled Cutters so theywill run with the bevel to the work.
