Patent Self-Feed

Blind-Slat Tenoning Machine.

This machine is for forming the cylindrical tenon on both ends of blind-slats,working them from either long or short strips, of any size from 1%" wide to 24"long, and rounding tenons of most any desired size. It is simple in construction, and easily operated.

The slat strips may be of any proper length. They are fed endwise throughrotating chucks having yielding jaws, and against an adjustable stop which reg-ulates the length of the slat. The bearings for the arbor are cast to the column. The arbor has a series of circular saws so arranged that two tenons are cut anddivided simultaneously at one operation.

After the slat has been moved against the stop a pressure upon the treadle startsthe feed, which rotates the chuck and slat and carries it against the saws, cutting theshoulder and forming the tenons. The slat continues to rotate until the pressureupon the treadle is released. This insures a perfect cylindrical tenon, as the methodof presenting the slat to the cutters and cutting from the periphery to the centerinsures smooth work and without tearing or breaking the fiber of the wood. Thecounter is placed at the base of machine.

The tight and loose pulleys are C"x3", and should make 600 revolutions.
