Automatic Blind-Slat Tenoning Machine.
With Automatic Feeding Chucks.
This is a new and most excellent machine for forming the round tenons on blind-slats. It is self-contained, and easily kept in order, and will work long or short stripsand make slats up to wide and 24 " long. The arbor is of steel, lead-ground, runsin self-oiling bearings cast in the top of the column, and carries a double set of saws,so arranged that two tenons are made and the slat divided at the same operation. Ithas a pair of revolving chucks in swinging yokes above the saws, through which theslat is fed endwise against an adjustable stop for governing the length desired to work.
The swinging-chuck yokes are geared inside the column, and when the machineis started the chucks revolve, presenting automatically the slat to the saws. Themechanism operating the cliuck-frame gives it a continuous automatic feeding mo-tion, consisting of a slow advance toward the saws and a quick return, followed by aperiod of rest sufficient to advance the slat strip to the chucks. This feeding move-ment is regular and continuous as long as the chucks are in motion, and operates atdifferent times and different rates of speed without manual direction or control.
The chucks have adjustable screws for regulating the width and thickness of theslats. There are also changes of speeds of feed to suit different lengths of slats, andprovision for quickly changing the size of the tenons. As the cut is made from theoutside toward the center the tenons are left clean and smooth.
The tight and loose pulleys are 0"x3", and should make 000 revolutions.
