To reduce a large Plan into a User C mpafs. according to any givenProportion ; and, on the contrary , Liv to enlarge one, '
X HERE are contracting Dividers, and also Machines latelyinvented for this Purpose, but it may be as effectually■ned by Paiallels, thus: Encompass the Plan with one largeSquare, (fee plate fig. t,) and afterwards divide that into asmany little Squares as you (hall fee convenient: Also make thesame Number of little Squares upon a fair Piece of Paper, ac-cording to the PraocTtton given : (fee fig. 3, plate 5,) This done,fee rn what Square, and Part of the same Square, the Lines orany remarkable Incidents lie, and accordingly tr ace off, or drawthe same with a black Lead Pencil in the leffer Squares, theSquares in both PLns being numbered alike with l. 2, 3, &c.This cannot be better explained than by comparing the above-mentioned ■ rgu r es, to wit, the rd and 3d fig plate 5. whereinthe Plan A B C D E F A is laid down by a Scale of 40 Polesto an Inch, and is reduced into the Plan G HIKL MG, equalto 16 Poles to an Inch; which is compleated by drawing everyLine or Incident that appears in each Square of the first Plan,in the fame Squares of the smaller Plan ; the Situation of theLines, Uc with regard to the corresponding ones in each Pian, willdirect you to proceed by imitating in the leffer every Line, Turn,Incident, and Accident that appears in the greater.
