Metaphysical and Divine Contemplations. 67
I am not therefore of their mind, thatthe sublime Mysteries of Divinity are tobe governed or measured by MagneticalMotions: all I shall do shall be to borrowsome Instances from the latter to explainmy Conceptions of the former , and tomake use sometimes of those Terms thatare used in Magnetical Learning, to expli-cate those Conceptions where they bear ajust Analogy to them, such as are Magne-tism , Attraction , Conversion, Aversion,Position, Verticity, Direction, Motion,Rest. And although I do not in the leastmanner imagine that the Pen-men of theSacred Scriptures had any respect unto, nonor perchance any cognizance of Magne-tical Natures in their various Expressions, yet certainly the Sacred Scripture hath di-vers Expressions, that in themselves bear agreat Analogy with theTerms above used ;which (is) a tolerable Excuse, if not aJustification , of me, in applying theseTerms to signisie or express the things tmean; and in making use of that Analogywhich they bear with them.
Such as are, Turn us y and tee Jer. 31. ij.shall be turned ; Convert us , andtee (hall be converted ; their hearts wereturned back from following the Lord :
