But the Business cf the Gospel is quite ofanother Nature, directed to the attainmentof Ends that are quite of another kind ;nay, is Ib far from it, that it tells its Dis-ciples they must not expect the Splendor ofthis World , but must neglect, deny, andcontemn it ; that instead thereof, theymust expect persecution, neglect, and con-tempt, from the World : and accordinglyit succeeded to them, especially in the firstand purest Ages of the Christian Church.

In that the Means and Instruments ofits Promulgation to the World, were themost disproportion’d to a politick humaneContrivance, and the most unlikely in allhumane Appearance to attain its End orAcceptation with the World : Had the E-vangelical Oeconomy been the Product of aConsultation of a Conclave of LearnedRabbi’s, or of deep Philosophers, or ofPolitick or Wise States-men, possibly itmight have given an Occasion to the restof the World to have said or thought, thatit is true indeed, it is a well-polished Systemof a Religion, but yet it carries a Suspicionwith it, of a humane Contrivance, consi-dering what Wise Men were emyloyed inthe digesting or promulgation of it.
